Nurses Have the Power to Create New Futures

Rachel K. Walker, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, associate professor and Ph.D. program director of the UMass Amherst College of Nursing and co-founder of Nursing Mutual Aid, will be speaking about the scientific accomplishments of nurses and women in STEM. 

Dr. Walker is the first nurse to be named an official Invention Ambassador for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the Associate Director of the UMass Center for Health and Human Performance. Dr. Walker’s work includes inventions to promote the treatment and care of patients with chronic illness and symptom-related disability. Dr. Walker’s work on nurse inventions such as that involving sensors related to computational eyeglasses, nanotechnology, accelerometers, and microfluidics has appeared in publications such as Forbes, Scientific American, and the journal, Science and has been featured on NPR, and TEDx.

The lecture is co-sponsored by Women’s Studies Program, Froelich School of Nursing, Department of Biological and Physical Sciences, and the Office of University Advancement and Alumni Relations.
