Assumption Magazine Wins Two National Awards
Assumption’s flagship publication, Assumption Magazine, has won two awards from the Catholic Press Association (CPA) of the United States and Canada. The 2020 Alumni Magazine Awards program recognizes the quality and engagement of Catholic college and university alumni publications.
Assumption earned top honors in the Best Interview category for its faculty profile on former Assumption professor Alison Cares, which appeared in the Spring 2019 issue. Judges noted that the piece was a “cute way for students/alum to get to know faculty. Appreciated the bit of whimsy.”
Assumption also earned a prestigious recognition in the Best Single Photo category. The photo of Meaghan Curley ’16 embracing a Peruvian woman she fit with a hearing aid accompanied the “Living the Mission: Hearing a Call to Serve Those in Need” column from the Spring 2019 issue. One judge remarked, “The photograph has captured a touching moment between two people.”
Assumption faced strong competition from larger universities from across the country, including fellow honorees the University of Notre Dame, the Catholic University of America, Mount Saint Mary’s University, Manhattan College, and the University of Loyola Chicago.
To qualify for consideration, entries were required to be part of a print or digital publication that was published in 2019.
