Assumption Names Lowthert Interim Director of Athletics

The Assumption Department of Athletics today announced that Christine Lowthert, senior associate athletic director, has been named interim director of athletics.

Lowthert began her service at Assumption in 2014 as associate athletic director/compliance coordinator and senior woman administrator. Since she was hired, Lowthert has managed a comprehensive NCAA compliance program for the University’s 24 intercollegiate sports and more than 500 student-athletes. In addition, she is responsible for student-athlete services that includes student-athlete welfare, academic success, and overseeing the Assumption Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Prior to Assumption, Lowthert served as assistant director of compliance and recruiting at Boston College. She holds Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and a master’s degree in business administration from Duquesne University, where she also served as assistant director of compliance. Lowthert is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education with a specialization in education leadership.

“The cyclical nature of our work in higher education often results in a time of transition and opportunity during the summer months,” said Robert Mirabile, Ph.D. vice president of Enrollment Management. “I am pleased to announce that Christine Lowthert will serve as the interim director of athletics while we commence a national search for a permanent director. I am grateful that Christine has agreed to serve in this role and for the support that the University community will provide to her. Christine is a talented and tremendously valued member of our administrative team.”

Jeff Hathaway, a seasoned professional in collegiate athletics management, will assist Lowthert as an administrative consultant. Hathaway has nearly 40 years of experience in the field and most recently served as vice president/director of athletics at Hofstra University.

This staffing transition comes after the recent departures of former Director of Athletics Jamie Marcoux and Senior Associate Director of Athletics Peter Gardula.

“Jamie and Peter have provided many years of service to the College,” added Mirabile. “I would like to thank them for their valued contributions and wish them well in their future endeavors.”
