Assumption and Greater Worcester Community Foundation Jointly Establish Scholarship Program
Assumption University and the Greater Worcester Community Foundation (GWCF) are thrilled to announce a new partnership that will award Worcester County high school students with scholarship money to support their academic careers at Assumption. This partnership is a reflection of Assumption’s commitment to significantly increase access to its Catholic liberal education as detailed in AU Thrive, the university’s new 10-year strategic plan.
Students who are admitted to the University and receive a scholarship from GWCF will receive a matched scholarship of up to $5,000 from Assumption. The total scholarship will be renewable for four years as long as the student continues their enrollment at Assumption, totaling $20,000 in per-student aid.
“We are thrilled about this new opportunity that local students will now have for our scholarship awards to be matched by a local university,” said Pete Dunn, President & CEO of Greater Worcester Community Foundation. “This partnership will help our donors’ contributions go even further, deepening our impact and alleviating the financial burden of students choosing to pursue their higher education in Worcester County.”
GWCF currently awards Worcester County high school students with over $800,000 in scholarships annually. Along with awarding scholarships to local students, GWCF works more broadly to promote the well-being and prosperity of citizens in Worcester County.
“We are proud to partner with the Greater Worcester Community Foundation to make Assumption’s distinctive education accessible to students from Worcester County,” said Assumption University President Greg Weiner. “These scholarships will allow students from our hometown the opportunity to study the liberal arts and gain preprofessional experience and will prepare these students for lives of meaning.”
The first scholarships from this partnership will be awarded for the 2024-2025 academic year.
