Hound of the Week: Kara Sczerbinski ’19
Congratulations to our hound of the week, Kara Sczerbinski ‘19. An Elementary Education and Spanish double major from Cranston, RI, Kara’s heavy involvement at Assumption varies widely. From being a CAB Spring Concert Executive, a member of the Assumption Dance Team, being an Orientation Leader in 2018, giving tours as an Admissions Ambassador, singing as a member of the acapella group “Grey Tones”, working as a member of ACTV, studying abroad in Salamanca, Spain (Spring 2017), participating in SEND Trips (Baltimore, January 2019), and engaging in student teaching; Kara has embodied what it means to be a part of the Assumption community.
During her time at Assumption, Kara has broken out of her shell. “I used to be extremely shy and would never even think about joining a club full of people I don’t know or signing up to give strangers a tour of campus. The opportunities introduced to me throughout my four years here allowed me to grow immensely, discover my strengths and hidden talents, and learn more about myself than I ever thought I would.” Kara is known among her friends as someone who loves to bring joy to others. With a strong sense of community at Assumption, Kara feels right at home. “I get my happiness and stability from knowing that I made someone smile. This is why the experiences I have had at Assumption including going on a SEND trip, student teaching, and being part of CAB have fulfilled my passion to spread my joy to others.” One moment that Kara highlights as a pivotal moment in her Assumption career was her time studying abroad in Spain. “This experience allowed me to learn so much about the world and myself and prepared me for life after college. I created so many new memories and made so many friends that I will never forget and Assumption gave me the opportunity for all of this.”
