Pirez ’08 Named Head Men & Women’s Tennis Coach

Assumption’s Interim Director of Athletics Christine Lowthert has announced that Megan Pirez ’08, will serve as the head coach for both the Men and Women’s Tennis programs.

In the past Pirez had served as the head women’s tennis coach. Following a recent restructuring by the Department of Athletics, Pirez’s position will now include leadership of both the Men and Women’s Tennis programs. In addition, the department has created an associate head men and women’s coach position to assist Pirez in running both programs. The associate head coach search is already in progress.

“We are thrilled that Megan Pirez will serve as head coach for both Assumption’s Men and Women’s Tennis programs,” said Lowthert. “Megan has had a long-time association with Assumption and has a thorough appreciation for the academics, athletics, and development of our student-athletes. Since 2013, she has helped turn around the tennis programs, specifically on the women’s side, playing a key role in the creation of practice plans, recruiting, and training. We know that the passion and expertise she has brought to the women’s team will carry over into her new duties as the head coach of the men’s team, breathing new life into the program, and positioning them as top competitors in the NE10 Conference.”

Pirez is entering her second season as head coach of the women’s team this fall, after leading the squad to the Northeast-10 Quarterfinals in her first season, finishing with a 9-7 overall record and a 7-4 conference record. She served as an assistant in the program for five years prior to her March 2018 hiring.

“I am grateful to Christine and Assumption for this opportunity,” said Pirez. “Both the men’s and women’s tennis programs are full of young talent. I am excited to get working with them and to see what the future holds for this program as a whole.”

As a player at Assumption, Pirez was a four-year member of the program as she helped the Hounds reach the NE10 Tournament three times over her four seasons before graduating in 2008. She served as a co-captain her senior season as the team went 5-8 overall before falling to Bryant in the opening round of the NE10 Tournament.

The Women’s Tennis NE10 season begins in Fall 2019, while the men’s tennis NE10 season begins in Spring 2020.
