Prof. Pica-Smith Recognized With Outstanding Book Award

The Society of Professors of Education recently announced that it has recognized Professor Cinzia Pica-Smith, Ed.D., with an Honorable Mention in their 2022 Outstanding Book Award Program. Professor Pica-Smith will receive the award at the American Educational Research Association’s Conference later this month.

Prof. Pica-Smith is the lead author of Social Justice Education in European Multi-Ethnic Schools, which also won the 2019 American Educational Studies Association Critics’ Choice Book Award, critically examines intercultural education now widely adopted by the European Union.

Since 1902, the Society of Professors of Education (SPE) has provided a place “for addressing the issues facing the discipline and vocation of education.” The SPE is “open to all persons engaged in teacher preparation, curriculum studies, educational foundations, and related activities. The Society’s primary goal is to provide a forum for consideration of major issues, tasks, problems, and challenges confronting professional educators.” 
    
Professor Pica-Smith is an associate professor of Human Services and Rehabilitation Studies and director of the Women’s Studies program at Assumption. She received a B.A. and M.S.Ed from the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY, an Ed.M. from Harvard University, and an Ed.D. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
