Statement on the Passing of Larry Lucchino

President Greg Weiner, Ph.D. has released the following statement on the passing of baseball and Worcester legend Larry Lucchino:

“Larry Lucchino was the beating heart of baseball in New England—a visionary who brought hope to millions in this region and especially to Worcester. He was also a loyal friend of Assumption University. When we became a founding partner of the WooSox, Larry understood partnership in the fullest sense. When our students came by the ballpark, he often stopped in. A glance at him was enough to light up any New England student’s face. He gave our graduates one of the most direct and profound commencement speeches I can recall having heard. His legacy of curses broken, ballparks built, and philanthropic causes championed will long outlive him. For Assumption, it was a privilege to call him a partner and friend.”
