Health Professions

Assumption University recognizes the importance of preparing students academically, personally and ethically for meaningful careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, veterinary medicine and nursing, to name a few.

Have you always dreamed of becoming a doctor? Or, perhaps, you’ve pictured yourself as a dentist, physician assistant or nurse. Assumption has a strong tradition of preparing students for graduate school and successful careers in healthcare.

To accomplish this, our highly credentialed professors work closely with you to plan your course of study. The array of science classes and laboratory credits available in our state-of-the-art Testa Science Center can fulfill the requirements for admission to the medical or professional school of your choice.

Assumption has established numerous agreements with programs in the health professions to provide a smooth transition from your undergraduate degree to entering the graduate school of your choice.  Students interested in Allopathic or Osteopathic Medicine, Podiatric Medicine, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Optometry, Physician Assistant Studies, Nursing, or Biotechnology should discuss these agreements with the Health Professions Advisor, Professor Steven Theroux.

In addition, we offer you many valuable opportunities to obtain hands-on experience in the life sciences industry of Worcester, Massachusetts. There also are faculty-student research opportunities right on campus. Academic rigor and practical experience provide Assumption students with noteworthy achievements for their graduate school applications.

Combined with a degree in Science, Psychology, or Human Services and Rehabilitation Studies, the concentration in Pre-Clinical Health Professions is designed to help students begin a career or enter graduate school in one of the health professions by preparing them to earn good grades and strong scores on graduate school admissions tests and interviews.

To prepare for rigorous graduate school entrance exams, students may work with Kaplan Test Prep, which has offered Assumption students discounted courses for several graduate school tests. In-person tutelage on test-taking strategy is mixed with content review and intensive drilling to ensure strong results. Preparatory courses are offered for the MCAT, DAT, GRE, and several other areas.

Assumption offers the following Articulation Agreements for admission to graduate programs in the health professions.
