94% of Class of ’17 Employed, Pursuing Additional Education, in Military or Engaged in Service

Assumption University’s Career Development and Internship Center (CDIC) today announced that as of December, more than 94 percent of those who graduated in May 2017 were employed, pursuing additional education, enlisted in the military or participating in post-graduate service opportunities. The figure was provided by a third-party organization who conducted a survey of members of the class of 2017.

“These positive outcomes continue to demonstrate the success of Assumption graduates following their undergraduate experience at the institution,” said Shannon Curtis, Director of the CDIC. “Thanks to the support of faculty, administrators and staff, Assumption has once again increased our favorable post-graduate outcomes.”   

In addition to faculty who are committed to students’ success beginning the first day of their first year, Assumption offers a number of services and opportunity to students to prepare them for a career or additional study. The CDIC helps students obtain the skills and obtain the experience they will need for a successful – and meaningful – career. CDIC advisors assist students from the first day through graduation in choosing the academic major and career options that are right for them and ensuring that they have the professional development and networking tools to make those aspirations a reality.

Paid and unpaid internships for college students are secured through the CDIC’s combination of one-on-one advising with extensive reference resources and the valuable connections that will favorably position students for that first internship, job or admission to graduate school. Faculty, who collaborate with the CDIC and who have a number of connections in their field, are also instrumental in facilitating internship opportunities for students. Summer internships or internships during the fall or spring semester are encouraged for all Assumption students. The result: 81% of Assumption’s 2017 graduates completed at least one experiential learning opportunity during their college career.

The CDIC provides a number of other career preparation services such as:

• Helping students prepare an effective cover letter and resume.
• Identifying internship opportunities with companies and organizations such as Amazon, Boston Children’s Hospital, Channel 7 News WHDH, Deloitte, EMC, Ernst & Young,  Fidelity Investments, Telegram & Gazette, TJX, UMASS Medical School, Worcester Public Schools, Worcester Superior Court and YWCA of Central MA
• Building professional contacts through Career Development & Networking nights.
• Preparing for a job interview with mock interviews offered by CDIC staff.

Facilitating employment opportunities with organizations such as: Bain Capital Credit, Barton Associates, Beacon ABA Services, Bose, The Bridge of Central MA, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, The Hanover Insurance Group, HMEA, IntePros Consulting, Key Program, Marcum LLP, New England Center for Children, Riverside Community Care, RSM/McGladrey, TEKsystems and You Inc.

The First Destination Survey was administered by GradLeaders, an independent organization, to our full-time undergraduate day graduates between May 14 and December 31, 2017. The purpose of the survey was to graduates’ primary post-graduate outcomes.  All reporting was conducted in accordance with the National Association of Colleges and Employers’ (NACE) standards.
